ip.access Announces Strategic Vision for ‘5G Roadmap’

Company invests in developing new small cell solutions

ip.access has announced its new strategic vision for the development of viable 5G network infrastructure.

With its existing products at 3.5GHz, offering both rural fixed access and enterprise small cell connectivity, ip.access is ideally placed to capitalise on both forks of the developing 5G market – below 6GHz (mainly around 3.5GHz) and mmWave.

The early global 5G market is centred around 3.5GHz for fixed access applications, including mobile backhaul and FWA, a natural extension of the CBRS 3.5GHz market in the US. In response to this opportunity ip.access is building on its 3.5GHz CBRS experience to create 5G-ready radio technology in this band for wideband fixed access applications.

Using the distributed architectures pioneered by the Small Cell Forum, and now embedded in the 3GPP New Radio (NR) specifications finalised at the very end of 2017, the ip.access technology is scalable to the Gbps throughputs required.

On the other side of the equation, mmWave spectrum is emerging from early proprietary fixed access applications into the national auctions that will come after the World Radio Conference in 2019 (WRC-19) reallocates that spectrum to mobile broadband use. Here ip.access is exploiting its small cell experience to create the Self-Organisation, Radio Resource Management and Interconnect capabilities to allow mmWave small cells to be deployed freely below existing LTE and emerging 5G macro networks.

Malcolm Gordon, CEO of ip.access, said: “2019 is the year that the first commercial 5G-enabled devices will enter the market. However, across the board, MNOs and telecommunications specialists are gearing up for the global deployment of 5G ahead of this by commissioning trials and developing potential solutions.

“If we are to create a truly viable 5G network the industry will need to place their trust in vendors who can move quickly, innovate creatively and capitalise on opportunities as they arise. Our roadmap for 5G is designed with that mindset in mind and ip.access is uniquely positioned to develop innovative, proven products rapidly as the market continues to evolve over the next four to five years.”
