Netflix unveils affordable Mobile Plan for India at INR 199/month

Users will be able to view content in Standard Definition (SD) on one smartphone or tablet at a time.

American video streaming giant Netflix has announced the launch of a new mobile plan for India. The mobile subscription plan, keeping in mind the value for money market of India, is priced at Rs 199 per month. Netflix has launched the mobile only streaming plan for the Indian market only. The cheaper mobile subscription plan comes on the basis of the insights that Netflix gathered from its Indian user base's experience.

In addition to the existing basic, standard and premium plans priced between Rs 499 and Rs 799, the new plan is Netflix’s fourth Indian plan. Users will be able to view content in Standard Definition (SD) on one smartphone or tablet at a time.

Indian consumers spend 30 per cent of their time in watching on mobile while over 70 per cent of their mobile data is spent on entertainment. Since Indian users like to watch Netflix at home as well as while traveling daily to offices, on the go in metro rail, cab or even bus, the video streaming platform has offered the new plan to make the platform even more accessible. The affordable plan goes well for people who like to watch on their smartphones and tablets on the go.

Ajay Arora, Director, Product Innovation, Netflix said, "India is a country that loves mobile phones. Indian consumers are using more mobile internet than any other. At Netflix, we discovered that our members in India watch more on their mobile than members anywhere else in the world. Since our innovation is to make every pixel count by streaming the right content to the right audience, it does not matter whether a user has a high-end smartphone or an entry level phone; we thrive to provide the same results.User experience is scalable no matter what device you have. We have an adapting interface for every device. It also means less time for loading content and more time spent in watching it."

While revealing that Netflix is now available on more than 1700 different kind of devices, Nigel Baptiste, Director, Partner Engagement at Netflix said that Netflix is investing heavily in mobile since Indian users choose to watch on mobile. The company is also looking at ways to make the experience better. "Our goal is to deliver the best entertainment—anytime, anywhere, and on any connected device. Our aim to get Netflix on as many devices as we can. We do not think about which device is more important than the other but about providing the best experience on every device." added Nigel.

Netflix also revealed that while it is investing heavily in Indian films and series across all genres, thirteen new films and nine new original series are already in the pipeline.
