Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and Ukraine record a usage lower than 1GB per SIM card per month on average

Average monthly mobile data usage in Europe will be 2.4GB per SIM card in 2017, largely due to big disparities among different European countries, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

By the end of 2017, GlobalData expects the most data-intensive country to be Finland, with 13.3GB per SIM per month on average, more than double that of any other country. High data usage will also occur in Austria (5.7GB), Poland (3.7GB) and Russia (3.5GB). This is largely due to the unlimited packages offered by operators in those countries.

On the other hand, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and Ukraine record a usage lower than 1GB per SIM card per month on average.

GlobalData estimates that monthly average mobile data usage will range from 950MB in the Czech Republic to 727MB in Slovakia owing to the relatively high data plan pricing in these countries. It is also worth mentioning that Ukraine started to deploy 3G networks in 2015 and is yet to deploy 4G.

Other countries, such as France and the UK are seeing their average monthly mobile data usage being diluted by the exponential number of low data-intensive M2M cards.

In the UK, where the average monthly mobile data usage in 2017 will reach 1.98GB, GlobalData expects average monthly data usage per M2M card to reach 291MB, smartphones 2.6MB and connected data devices 2.8GB.

Similar trends can be observed in France, where the average monthly mobile data usage in 2017 will reach 2.5GB and we expect average monthly data usage per M2M card to reach 328MB, smartphones 2.8MB and connected data devices 4.4GB.
